Last week, Sheridan Elementary School’s fifth-grade students traveled to Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) in Lafayette. There, they were able to experience engineering in action.

At SIA, students rotated through three different stations. The first station, Dobots, brought an opportunity for students to code robot instructions. At the second station, Lego Line, students were put into a real-life simulation of a production line. In the third and final situation, Indi Cars, students created pathways for cars to travel.

Overall, the trip provided a hands-on experience for students to learn about how cars, specifically Subarus, are created and engineered. At the end, students finished off with a chance to walk on the catwalk and discover all the details in connection to the three Subaru vehicles produced onsite.

This unique and engaging experience provided students with an interesting and newfound way to look at engineering and product building.
