Sheridan saw its season come to an end Friday at South Putnam, as the Class 1A No. 6 Eagles ran away from the Blackhawks 60-19 to claim the Regional 23 championship.
South Putnam went up 16-0 in the first quarter before Sheridan got on the board with a one-yard touchdown run by Owen Bell. The Eagles scored again to lead 24-16 after one quarter; they made three two-point conversions after each touchdown.
The ‘Hawks cut into that lead midway through the second quarter when Jon Barnes scored on a four-yard touchdown run, with Bell making the extra-point kick. But South Putnam blasted through the remainder of the quarter, leading 46-13 at halftime.
The Eagles scored another touchdown midway through the third quarter, instituting a running clock for the remainder of the game. Sheridan got one more touchdown, with Caleb Alexander collecting a 55-yard pass from Bell.
Alex Cravens led the Blackhawks’ rushing with 74 yards, while Bell totaled 121 yards passing.
Sheridan finished the season 7-6, including its 22nd sectional championship.
