Sheridan was overwhelmed by the No. 1 team in Class 1A Monday, as Rossville beat the Blackhawks 11-0 in the championship game of Sectional 54 at Sheridan’s field.
The Hornets led 3-0 after five innings, which is when the game was interrupted by a weather delay. When play resumed, Rossville added two runs in the sixth, and then poured in six runs in the seventh inning.
Jake Vita had two hits for Sheridan, which finished the season 14-6.
“They’re resilient to the end,” said Blackhawks coach Adam Spencer. “Certainly wasn’t the way that we wanted to end the game. They’re a very good team, I’ll give them a lot of credit. Rossville is very talented.
“I’m just proud of our kids. This is a season that I’m not sure that we even thought we would have. And to end up in the sectional championship game with 14 wins, I’m very proud of these boys.”
