The Sheridan basketball teams split a Hoosier Heartland Conference doubleheader Friday at Delphi.
The Blackhawks girls team cruised past the Oracles 72-52. Sheridan got off to a great start, leading 20-6 after the first quarter, then increased its lead to 37-17 at halftime. The ‘Hawks held a 50-32 advantage after three periods, then cruised through the fourth quarter to win and even their conference record to 3-3.
Kenzie Garner poured in 25 points for Sheridan, and also had nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals. Nova Cross and Lilly Chesney each added 11 points, with Chesney pulling six rebounds. Jacquellynne Bates played strong defense. A girls boxscore was unavailable at press time.
In the boys game, Sheridan fell to Delphi 61-55. The two teams were tied at 14-14 after the first quarter, then the Oracles pulled away in the second period, going up 28-23 by halftime. Delphi extended its lead to 44-36 after three quarters; the ‘Hawks scored 19 in the fourth, but the Oracles hung on for the win.
Caleb Wright led Sheridan with 15 points, followed by Ty Garner with 14 and Trent DeCraene with 12. DeCraene, Wright and Parker Williams all pulled five rebounds, with DeCraene dishing out six assists.
Sheridan’s girls are 11-8 overall and continue conference play by hosting Clinton Central on Tuesday. The Blackhawks boys are 2-4 in the HHC and 8-7 overall, and play again next Friday at Taylor in another conference contest.
