The Sheridan boys basketball team hit the road last night for a key Hoosier Heartland Conference battle. Delphi gave the Blackhawks everything it could, handing Sheridan its first loss in league action, 63-58.
It was an even game from the opening tip. Delphi held an 11-10 lead after one and the two matched in the second (17-17) that kept the Oracles up 28-27 at halftime.
Delphi figured out ways in the third and found breathing room to outscore Sheridan 22-13 for a 50-40 lead.
The Blackhawks climbed out of the 10-point deficit to put up 18 in the fourth with the Oracles scoring just 13. But that wouldn’t be enough to come back in the five-point road loss.
Trey Page led Sheridan with 19. Devon Hamilton (14) and Caleb Wright (12) joined in double figures, while Damon Winston chipped in with nine. Wright also dished out eight assists and Hamilton grabbed five rebounds and had a handful of steals.
The loss drops Sheridan to 5-1 in HHC play. Overall, the Blackhawks are 10-3 and will host Purdue Poly North (2-9) tonight at Larry Hobby Gymnasium. The Lynx lost at Providence Cristo Rey last night, 50-36.
