Sheridan dropped both games of a Hoosier Heartland Conference girls-boys doubleheader with Clinton Prairie Friday at Larry Hobbs Hall.
In the girls game, the Gophers used a big first half to beat the Blackhawks 54-32. Prairie led 21-7 after one quarter and 42-11 at halftime. Sheridan cut into the Gophers’ lead during the second half, outscoring them 21-12.
Kenzie Garner hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter, and scored 14 of her team-leading 17 points in the second half. Ashley Webel added 11 points, including three triples.
The boys game was close all the way to the end, with Clinton Prairie winning 54-52. The Gophers steadily built a lead throughout the first three quarters, going up 15-10 after one period, then leading 42-32 after three quarters. Sheridan poured in 20 points in the fourth, including seven points from Owen Bell, but Prairie was able to hold on for the win.
Caleb Wright scored 21 points for the ‘Hawks, draining four 3-pointers. Trent DeCraene contributed 11 points. Parker Williams led the rebounds with five.
Sheridan’s girls are 0-2 in HHC play and 3-5 overall, and play another conference game Thursday at Rossville. The Blackhawks boys played their conference opener with this game and are 1-2 overall, and travel to Anderson Prep Academy for a game tonight.
