Sheridan began play in Class 1A Sectional 46 Friday with a 44-6 victory at Clinton Central.
The Blackhawks took care of business early with three touchdowns in the first quarter. Jon Barnes scored the first TD with a 22-yard run to the end zone.
Dayne Voege got the next touchdown, a 21-yard pass from Owen Bell. Alex Cravens punched the ball in from the two a couple minutes later, and Sheridan led 21-0 after the opening period.
Bell kicked all three extra points in the first quarter, and he added a field goal late in the second period. Those would be the only points, but the Hawks were in control, leading 24-0 at halftime.
Sheridan put up two more touchdowns in the third quarter. Jacob Hall made a 40-yard trip to the end zone with 4:40 left in the period, then Barnes scored from two yards during the last minute. Bell kicked both extra points.
Barnes scored his third touchdown of the game on a one-yard run early in the fourth quarter. He led Sheridan’s rushing with 105 yards, while Cravens was right behind him with 104 yards.
The Blackhawks are 5-5 and advance to the semifinals of Sectional 46. Sheridan goes back on the road for its semifinal game, playing next Friday at Clinton Prairie.
