Dear Editor:

As Carmel unveils the $360,000 (in borrowed money), 42-foot-tall aluminum and plastic roundabout decoration “just in time for … National Roundabouts Week,” as you reported Sunday, a couple of facts come to mind.

First, Carmel progressive planners have $1.1 million more in pseudo-artistic decorations in the works to join the $4.5 million already spent on such affectations.

Second, the decoration has proven to be a genuine distraction for motorists navigating the roundabout.

Third, there is absolutely no solid evidence that sham-art has produced a single dollar in revenue for businesses or the citizens in Carmel.

Fourth, what Carmel resident has time to celebrate National Roundabouts Week when we’re so busy celebrating National Breakfast Month, National Potato Month, National Papaya Month, National Cholesterol Awareness Month, National Organic Harvest Month and National Ice Cream Sandwich Month?
