Hamilton County Public Safety Communications employees were recently singled out for the Dispatcher of the Year Award at the Indiana Emergency Response Conference (IERC).

According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the IERC serves as the annual gathering for firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS), law enforcement, emergency management agencies, hazardous materials professionals, special operations personnel and telecommunicators. It includes educational sessions, innovative presentations and discussions about some of the most pressing issues facing the emergency response community in Indiana.

The awards banquet was held at the Sheraton Hotel, 8787 Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis.

Of the 21 employees who handled the Noblesville West Middle School incident, 13 were on hand to accept the award that was given by the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association during the 2018 IERC. There were several nominations for the Dispatcher of the Year award from across the state and our group, Hamilton County’s “Days A-Shift” was selected.

Director of Operations Darin Riney, who accepted the award on behalf of the agency, told The Reporter, “The men and women of the Hamilton County Public Safety Communications Department train every day to be as prepared for disaster as they can possibly be. On May 25, our staff helped turn chaos into order and assisted all of the first responders in having as good an outcome as was possible. We are very proud of what they accomplished, and we are humbled to have an organization like the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association recognize their hard work.”
