Baseball: Top-ranked Greyhounds win MIC finale

The Carmel baseball team won its Metropolitan Conference finale on Thursday, beating Warren Central 15-1 in a five-inning away game.
The Class 4A No. 1 Greyhounds got going with four runs in the second inning. Griffin Wolf hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Evan Neukam hit two doubles in a 3-for-3 night, also driving in three runs. Nick Mitchell scored three runs.
Noah Bradbury pitched four innings to get the win, allowing only four hits.
Carmel finished MIC play 12-1-1, placing second behind Center Grove’s 13-1 record. The Greyhounds are 21-2-1 overall and host their Carmel Invitational on Saturday, playing Cathedral in their first game.

Fishers finished its regular and Hoosier Crossroads Conference seasons on a winning note, beating Brownsburg 3-0 in a Thursday home game.
The Tigers scored their runs in the later innings. Fishers got on the board in the fifth when Joey Brenczewski hit a sacrifice fly to send Kaden Gorak home. In the sixth inning, Jack Braun singled in Matt Bryant, then was later scored on Gavin Clayton’s sacrifice fly.
Carson Dunn had two hits for the Tigers, while Caulin Brown hit a double. Jack Brown pitched a complete game, tossing five strikeouts against four walks and three hits.
Fishers finished fourth in the HCC with a 7-7 record and is 17-12 overall. The Tigers play Hamilton Southeastern Wednesday in the first round of the Westfield sectional.

Hamilton Southeastern won a Thursday HCC game over Franklin Central 7-4 at Ken Seitz Field.
The Royals got on the board in the second inning when Eli Miller hit a two-RBI single, sending Peyton Lusby and JT Mutchner in to score. Southeastern added another run in the third; Cole Earlewine got home after Lusby reached on error.
Earlewine delivered a two-run home run in the fourth inning, also scoring Landon Riekhof. The Royals would add two more runs in the sixth inning when Noah Wolf and Eli Lantz got home after Earlewine reached on error. Wolf earlier got on base with a double.
Sam Reagan pitched four innings for the win, tossing five strikeouts.
Southeastern is 11-15-1 and finishes its conference and regular seasons today at Franklin Central to complete the HCC series.

Noblesville dropped its HCC finale Thursday at Zionsville 9-3.
The Eagles scored five runs in the first inning and led from there. The Millers got two runs in the second inning: Bryce Adams scored on a wild pitch and Drew Niswonger hit a sacrifice fly to send Keegan Speek home. Speek came in to run for Conner Bloss, who hit a single for Noblesville’s lone hit of the night.
Adams again scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
The Millers are 12-16 and play a doubleheader with Columbus East Saturday afternoon at Don Dunker Field.

Sheridan fell to Tri-West 9-6 in a Thursday away game.
The Blackhawks scored the game’s first run in the top of the second inning when Collin McNair singled in Cole Bales. The Bruins poured in four runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.
Sheridan tied the game in the top of the third with three runs. Bales doubled home Cameron Hovey and Silas DeVaney, then was brought in again by a McNair single.
The score stayed tied until the fifth inning, when Tri-West scored another four runs. The ‘Hawks added a run in the fifth when Gavin Reners got home after Camden Spencer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the seventh inning, De-Vaney hit a triple and was later sent home by McNair’s third RBI single of the game.
McNair finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate. Gavin Reners threw five strikeouts in four innings as the Sheridan starter.
The Blackhawks are 9-17 for the season.
