Baseball: Tigers score two in the sixth inning, get past Shamrocks

Fishers scored two runs in the sixth inning, and that was enough to send the Tigers to a 3-2 Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory over Westfield Wednesday at the Tigers’ field.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning. The Shamrocks’ Tyler Smitherman singled in Parker Bard in the top of the first. Fishers answered immediately, as Nick Lukac hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first.
Neither team would score again until the sixth inning. Smitherman struck again for Westfield, as he singled in Bryce Dorton to put the ‘Rocks up 2-1. But again, the Tigers answered: Dominic Oliverio sent a triple into left field to score Jackson Preston, then Oliverio scored later when Grant Whetsel reached on error.
Daniel Owens threw the last one and two-thirds innings, thus getting the win. Owens relieved Jon Vore, who tossed six strikeouts in five and a third innings. Bard pitched five innings for Westfield, striking out eight.
The two teams are scheduled to continue the series at 6 p.m. tonight at Westfield, weather permitting.

Millers overwhelm Flashes

Noblesville overwhelmed Franklin Central 13-2 in a six-inning Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Wednesday at Don Dunker Field.
The Millers scored at least two runs in five of the six innings. Cooper Miles cracked two home runs; the first was a three-run homer in the second inning, then a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
Appropriately, the game ended with another home run. That one was by Brady Walden, and his two-run homer over center field got the Millers over the 10-run margin in the sixth inning. Both Miles and Walden finished the game 3-for-4. Walden also hit a double.
Camden Nagel pitched all six innings, tossing five strikeouts.
Noblesville is still unbeaten in HCC play at 5-0 and is 8-6 overall. The Millers play Friday at Franklin Central to complete the series.

Heights scored three runs in the first inning and five more in the second. The Huskies finished the game in the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles: Brody Piel sent one into center field to score Sam Allen, then Nate Hulen followed that with another double, getting Harrison Hochstedler and Piel home and finishing the game on the 10-run rule.
Piel finished the game with two hits, both doubles. Allen also hit a double. Sam Fulton pitched five innings for the win, striking out seven.
Heights is 4-4 and hosts Elwood Saturday in a doubleheader.
