Baseball: Tigers complete sweep of Shamrocks

The Fishers baseball team completed a Hoosier Crossroads Conference sweep of Westfield on Friday by beating the Class 4A No. 1 Shamrocks 6-0 at Westfield.
The 4A No. 3 Tigers scored a run in the first inning when Joey Brenczewski got home on Jack Brown’s RBI groundout. In the fifth inning, Brenczewski doubled Huey Dunn home to give Fishers a 2-0 lead. The Tigers then opened up the game for four runs in the seventh inning: Joey Hietpas hit a double, then both he and Dunn got home on another Brenczewski double. Late, Caulin Brown batted in Brenczewski and Carson Dunn.
Brenczewski finished the game with three hits. Jack Brown hit a triple, in addition to throwing eight strikeouts in six innings for the pitching win.
Evan Russ hit a double for Westfield.
Fishers is 5-1 in the conference and 10-3 overall, and hosts Huntington North this afternoon in a doubleheader. The Shamrocks are 4-2 in the conference and 8-2 overall, and welcome New Castle today for an afternoon game.

Guerin Catholic won its first game at the Catholic Classic Friday, beating South Bend St. Joseph 6-5 at Lafayette Central Catholic.
St. Joseph led 2-0 after two innings. The Golden Eagles broke through in the third inning, with Will Fremion batting in Caden Ratcliff for their first run. AJ Nunley then stole home plate to tie the game, and Fremion scored the go-ahead run on Anthony Ferrucci’s RBI groundout.
Guerin Catholic added two more runs in the fourth inning, as Sam Tabor singled Davis Wagner home, then Ratcliff batted in Tabor. Clay Patton scored in the fifth inning on an error.
Wagner had two hits for the Golden Eagles. Ryan Zimmerman got the pitching win.
Guerin Catholic is 8-2 and plays two more games today, taking on Bishop Noll at 2:30 p.m. and LCC at 7:30 p.m.

Another day, another perfect game for University.
Ian Smitley did the honors this time, as the Trailblazers sailed past Seton Catholic 19-0 in a Pioneer Conference game at RoundTripper Academy. Smitley faced the minimum 15 batters, striking out 10.
University was dominant on offense, collecting 20 hits. Jasper Owens had three hits, including a double. Grayson Knight hit a home run, while Seth Hogg smacked two triples. Jake Hooker had a triple and a double. Hogg drove in five runs, Knight had four RBIs and Owens scored four runs.
The Trailblazers are 8-2 and play South Central tonight at Kokomo.

Cam Heaney pitched a no-hitter for Carmel on Friday, and the Greyhounds also had a nice evening at the plate as they beat Whiteland 10-0 in five innings at Hartman Field.
Heaney tossed five strikeouts and allowed only two walks for the entire game. Carmel took control in the second inning by scoring eight runs, this after scoring a run in the first inning. Case Sullivan ended the game in the fifth inning by batting in Adam Buczkowski, who had gotten on base with a double.
Cody Kantz and Tripp Schroeder both hit home runs, and Dan Cunningham also had a double.
The Greyhounds are 4-3 and play Monday at Avon.

Noblesville picked up an HCC sweep of Franklin Central Friday, winning 2-0 at Don Dunker Field.
The Millers scored both of their runs in the fifth inning. Trevor Corbett singled in Elijah Bowers for the first run, then Drew Niswonger scored on a wild pitch.
Corbett had both of Noblesville’s hits. Bryce Riggs pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing only three hits.
The Millers are 4-2 in the conference and 6-6 overall, and host Columbus North tonight.
