The Fishers baseball team rolled to the Mudsock trophy on Friday, clinching the annual best-of-three game series with Hamilton Southeastern by virtue of a 13-1 win at the Royals’ Ken Seitz Field.
The Class 4A No. 3 Tigers had won yesterday’s series opener 8-1 at their own field. The final game of the series takes place today, back at Fishers. The start time has been moved up to 3 p.m. due to weather concerns.
The Tigers scored all of their runs in the first four innings, taking control of the game by putting up eight runs in the third.
“Proud of our guys to continue to stay with it,” said Fishers coach Matthew Cherry. “We’ve had a tendency in the past to let off a little bit when we’ve gotten a lead and our guys didn’t do that tonight.”
Carson Dunn stole home plate for Fishers’ first run, and it was just the beginning of a great night. Dunn would go 4-for-4 at the plate, driving in three runs and scoring two more. He hit a two-RBI double in the second inning, then batted in another run in the third. Dunn stole three bases during the game.
Jack Brown had two hits for Fishers, including an RBI in the fourth inning. He also pitched all five innings, throwing nine strikeouts.
Gavin Clayton scored three runs, while Dom Oliverio also scored two runs. Joey Brenczewski batted in a second-inning run, while Quinn Seefeldt got a third-inning RBI.
Cole Earlewine scored Southeastern’s run in the third inning. He had two hits during the game.
Fishers is 13-4 for the season, while the Royals are 5-11.
