Baseball: Royals best ‘Hounds, 5-4

The Hamilton Southeastern baseball team won a close all-county game with Carmel on Monday, 5-4 at Ken Seitz Field.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Tyler Walkey batted in JD Stein for the Greyhounds’ first run, then Tripp Schroeder scored on Adam Buczkowski’s fielder’s choice. The Royals got on the board when Alex Billman singled in Maddux Bach, then Griffen Haas scored when Chugga Rosario drew a bases-loaded walk.

Southeastern went up 3-2 in the second inning when Ty Bradle doubled home Bach. Buczkowski got the run back in the top of the third when he doubled on to base, then later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3.

The Royals took the lead again in the bottom of the third, when Bach doubled Clayton Wilke and Rosario home for a 5-3 lead. Carmel cut the advantage to 5-4 in the fourth inning when Drew Fouts scored on Hunter Snow’s RBI fielder’s choice, but the Royals held on from there.

Matt Poyer got the pitching win for Southeastern. Dylan Zenor pitched four innings for the ‘Hounds, striking out seven.

The Royals are 7-4 and begin a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series Thursday at Zionsville. Carmel is 4-1 and hosts Lawrence North this afternoon.
