Baseball roundup: Sheridan improves to 2-0

Sheridan beat Indiana School for the Deaf 18-2 in six innings in a Thursday road game.
The Blackhawks’ first run came in the first inning, when Jake O’Hara singled in Corbin Went. Sheridan then added two runs in the fourth, six in the fifth and nine in the sixth.
Zach Mannies hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Jacob Vita went 3-for-4, while Kyle Archer, Sean Speck and Cole Cummings all had one triple. Steve Smith batted in three runs, with Cameron Hovey scoring three times.
O’Hara pitched all six innings, striking out 12 while giving up three hits and no walks.
Sheridan is now 2-0 for the season and plays a doubleheader at Indianapolis Washington this evening. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.

‘Blazers cruise past Bethesda
University cruised to an 11-0 win at Bethesda Christian on Thursday.
The Trailblazers took care of business right away, scoring eight runs in the first inning. Garrett Hill hit a double to score Dawson Estep for University’s first run. Asher Thompson got home when Cade Carlson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then Hill scored on an RBI groundout from Ben Ewer.
Kolton Stevens’ left field single sent Brock Moore and Carlson home. Estep got a second at-bat in the inning and singled in Stevens and Koki Hirano. Thompson then sent a single up center field to score Estep.
University scored two more runs in the fourth inning, with Carlson getting home on an error and Will Spence batting in Ewer. Thompson scored in the fifth inning on Moore’s RBI groundout.
Thompson went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Estep and Hill both collected two hits. Nate Shatkowski only gave up one hit in the five innings, will striking out eight.
University is now 4-3 for the season. The Trailblazers will play Muncie Burris at 5:15 p.m. this evening; the game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up a day due to weather concerns. The game will take place at McCulloch Park, 1200 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Muncie.

Carmel falls to Zionsville
Carmel lost to Zionsville Thursday 16-5 at Hartman Field.
The Eagles scored seven runs in the top of the second inning. The Greyhounds cut that to 7-4 in the top third after Jackson Adams hit a grand slam home run into left field. Carmel had loaded the bases after Jared Greene, Jack Van Remortel and Will Richter all drew walks.
Zionsville scored twice in the top of the fourth, but the ‘Hounds added another run in the bottom of that inning, after Van Remortel singled in Drew Olssen. The Eagles would score four more in the fifth and three in the seventh.
Adams finished the game 2-for-4; he also hit a double in the fifth inning.
Carmel is now 3-4 and will play at Westfield on Monday. This will be a make-up game that was postponed due to weather earlier in the season.
