Baseball roundup: Millers, Hounds get big wins

The Noblesville baseball team cruised past Brownsburg 12-3 Thursday in an away Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Millers came back with six runs in the top of the second. Aiden Ramsey started things off with a solo home run, then Aiden Reynolds blasted a grand slam into left field, also scoring Garrett Dixon, Zac Glander and Trevor Corbett. Cole Schott followed that with a center field homer.

Noblesville added two runs in the fourth inning. Zac Glander doubled in Adam Gaskill, then later scored on a wild pitch. The Millers smacked two home runs in the sixth inning to put up four runs: Corbett’s three-run homer scored Glander and Gaskill, then Reynolds hit a solo homer into left field.

Reynolds finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBI. Dixon was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Ramsey was 3-for-4. Corbett went 2-for-3. Beckett Doane pitched five innings for the win, tossing seven strikeouts.

Noblesville is 8-3 in conference play and 14-8 overall. The Millers host Brownsburg at 6:30 p.m. tonight to finish the HCC series.

Carmel sailed past Mooresville 9-0 in a Thursday game at Hartman Field.

The Greyhounds started with three runs in the first inning. Carson Mace doubled in Jay Stein and Evan Vogt, then Anthony Back singled in Mace. Carmel added four runs in the second inning: Nate Steele scored on an error, then Vogt batted in Stein. Parker Heaney tripled in Vogt and later scored on a passed ball.

Mace singled in Stein and Gabe Mathison in the fourth inning; Mace batted 2-for-3 on the night. Mathison hit a double. Callaway Carmichael went four innings for the pitching win.

The ‘Hounds are 14-7 and host Roncalli at 6 p.m. tonight.

University got a 7-6 win over Brebeuf Jesuit Thursday at RoundTripper Academy.

The Braves scored a run in the second inning, but the Trailblazers answered with three runs in the bottom of the second. Finn Steiner doubled in Cooper Burnett, then Ryan Castetter’s double scored Steiner and Owen Kingery.

Steiner hit a third-inning sacrifice fly to score Charlie Ranek. In the fourth inning, Phillip Jacobs smacked a two-out triple, then scored on Beckett Suh’s left field hit. Cammack brought in Suh with a single and University led 6-3. Jacobs scored a run in the sixth inning.

Jacobs and Cammack both had two hits. Caleb Stocker got the pitching win.

The Blazers are 13-10 and host Greenwood Christian Academy on Monday.

Fishers came back to beat Franklin Central 6-5 Thursday in an eight-inning away HCC game.

The Flashes led 4-0 after two innings. The Tigers’ Deagan Repp doubled in Carter Strole for a third-inning run, then Fishers scored four runs in the fourth inning to lead 5-4. Jase Ruggles doubled in Trevor Hall and Luke Cherry, then Justin Brown singled Ruggles and Mayo Fernandez home.

Franklin Central scored a sixth-inning run to tie the game at 5-5. Strole doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, scoring Fernandez.

Cherry, Fernandez and Strole all had two hits, with Strole hitting a double. Reid Garber got the pitching win in relief, while Owen Sanders struck out six in five innings.

The Tigers are 10-1 in conference play and 20-4 overall. Fishers hosts Franklin Central at 6:30 p.m. tonight to complete the HCC series.

Hamilton Heights dropped a 4-0 game to McCuctheon Thursday.

The Mavericks held the Huskies to one hit, a single by P.J. Wright. Nick Hulen pitched five innings, striking out nine and allowing three hits.

Heights is 6-14 and travels to Rensselaer Central tonight for the Hoosier Conference placement game.
