Noblesville beat Avon 7-3 on Thursday at Don Dunker Field, clinching the Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with the Orioles.
The Millers started with three runs in the first inning. Tyler Owens got home first, scoring when Mark Goudy reached on error. Cooper Miles scored on a wild pitch, then Jacob Thieman hit a sacrifice fly to send DJ Owens home.
In the second inning, Tyler Owens smacked a two-run double, scoring Zac Tuinei and Jackson Ramey. The Millers added two more runs in the fifth inning: Goudy singled in Miles, then later scored himself on a wild pitch.
Ramey finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. Reese Sharp also hit a double. Tyler Owens pitched five innings for the win.
Noblesville is 19-10 and travels to Avon today for a 7 p.m. game that will wrap up the series and the Millers’ regular season.
Blackhawks fall to Tri-West
Sheridan lost an 8-2 game to Tri-West on Thursday.
The Blackhawks scored one run in the third inning, when Cole Cummings got home on an error. Sheridan’s second run came in the sixth inning; Zach Mannies scored when Nolan Buckner reached on error.
Mannies finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate. Jake O’Hara pitched four innings, striking out six.
The ‘Hawks are 7-8 and travel to Hamilton Heights today for a 6 p.m. game.
Royals drop first game to Bulldogs
Hamilton Southeastern dropped the first game of a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with Brownsburg 5-2 Thursday at Ken Seitz Field.
The Royals scored one run in each of the first two innings. Greyson Droste batted in Anthony Eggers with a first-inning line drive.
Brayton Harrison hit a double to begin the bottom of the second inning, then scored on Eggers’ RBI fielder’s choice. Harrison got on But the Bulldogs tied the game in the fourth inning and got the go-ahead run in the fifth.
Jacob Daftari also had a hit for the Royals. Rutger Poiry pitched five and a third innings, striking out seven.
Southeastern is 11-15 and will play a doubleheader at Brownsburg on Friday to finish the series and the regular season.
Golden Eagles’ comeback is just short
Guerin Catholic almost made a big comeback against Covenant Christian on Thursday, falling just short 8-7 at the Warriors’ field.
Covenant Christian ran away in the second inning, scoring eight runs. That 8-0 lead held for five innings, before the Golden Eagles started their rally.
Nick Bingman took the first pitch of the sixth inning into left field for a double. He would then score GC’s first run, getting home on Max Engelking’s RBI fielder’s choice. Sam Lewandowski then scored after Brendan Downey reached on error.
A walk loaded the bases, and Engelking was sent home after Bennett Ely was hit by a pitch. Jake Andriole then scored Wes Gingerich with an RBI groundout.
The Golden Eagles continued their run in the seventh inning. Bingman scored on Sam Joyal’s RBI groundout, then Lewandowski scored on a balk by the Warriors’ pitcher. Gingerich scored the seventh run after Ely reached on error, but Covenant Christian would hold on to win from there.
Keenan Taylor, Bingman and Lewandowski all had two hits for Guerin Catholic. Taylor hit a double in the seventh inning.
The Golden Eagles are 11-12 and will play in the Greyhound Invitational at Grand Park this weekend.
