Baseball roundup: Huskies fall in Kentucky season opener, Guerin Catholic drops close game at Bishop Chatard

The Hamilton Heights baseball team opened its season at the George Rogers Clark Spring Break Tournament Monday, playing Boyle County at the Centre College Baseball Stadium in Danville, Ky.

The Huskies fell to Boyle County 5-2. Heights scored both of its runs in the top of the first inning. Logan Hickman drew a lead-off walk, then Kyle Michael tripled him home. Nick Bichey came in to run for Michael and he scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Nick Hulen. Boyle County scored a run in the bottom of the first, then put up four runs in the fifth inning.

Dillon Pitts, Adam Hughes and Landon Cook all had one hit for the Huskies.

Heights plays a doubleheader today against George Rogers Clark to finish up the tournament. The first game starts at 11:30 a.m., with the second game to begin at 2:30 p.m. The doubleheader takes place at GRC in Winchester, Ky.

Guerin Catholic dropped a close Circle City Conference opener 1-0 Tuesday at Bishop Chatard.

The Golden Eagles got a solid outing from Davis Wagner, who pitched a complete game. He struck out four while allowing four hits and no walks. But the Trojans held off Guerin Catholic, then scored a run in the fourth inning to get the victory.

Guerin Catholic got seven hits, including a double from Cuinn Morrow.

The Golden Eagles are 2-1. They are scheduled to host Chatard at 5:30 p.m. today to complete the conference series, weather permitting.
