Baseball roundup: ‘Hawks overwhelm Tindley in opener

Sheridan opened its season by overwhelming Tindley 19-2 in a Tuesday home game.
The Blackhawks scored 11 runs in the first inning to take control of the game. Jacob Vita and Corbin Went both were perfect at the plate, hitting 3-for-3. Zach Oberle and Cameron Hovey both drove in three runs, while Zach Snider scored four runs.
Five different pitches threw one inning for Sheridan, and all five had three strikeouts. The Blackhawks did not allow any hits.
The Blackhawks play at Indiana School for the Deaf on Thursday.

Marauders get on top early, beat Shamrocks

Westfield fell to Mount Vernon 11-3 in a Tuesday home game.
The Marauders scored five runs in the top of the first inning and held the lead for the entire game. The Shamrocks scored two runs in the second inning, with Kyle Pepiot getting home on a Tyler Smitherman RBI groundout, then Brandon Yoder sent home Payton Tamm on a single; Tamm doubled to get on base.
Westfield added another run in the third inning on a Trey Anderson sacrifice fly that scored Sam Eaton. Pepiot and Eaton both had two hits, with Eaton hitting a triple and Pepiot smacking a double.
The ‘Rocks are 2-2 and begin a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with Noblesville this weekend. The games will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday and noon Saturday at Westfield, with the Friday game starting at 6 p.m. at the Millers’ Don Dunker Field.

GC falls in Circle City game

Guerin Catholic dropped a 7-2 Circle City Conference game to Bishop Chatard Tuesday at the Golden Eagles’ field.
Guerin scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Sam Joyal’s single scored Bennett Ely in the fourth, then Owen Hargrave sent Keenan Taylor home with a fifth-inning single. Taylor finished the game with two hits.
The Golden Eagles are 2-2 and play at New Castle on Thursday.

University drops two games

University fell to Harrison 13-5 in a Tuesday home game.
The Trailblazers scored runs in the first four innings. University scored one in the first when Ryan Williams stole home plate.
The ‘Blazers took a 3-2 lead in the second inning. Kolton Stevens’ double sent Nate Shatkowski, and Stevens himself would score right away on a single by Asher Thompson.
The Raiders scored four runs in the top of the third to go up 6-3 and would hold the lead from there. University added one run in the bottom of the third when Cade Carlson singled in Brock Moore, who had gotten on base with a triple. Dawson Estep hit a fourth-inning single to score Stevens.
Garrett Hill and Thompson both had two hits for the Trailblazers.
University dropped a 2-0 away game to Speedway on Monday.
Brock Moore went 2-for-3 for the Trailblazers, while Ben Ewer stole two bases.
University is now 3-3 and plays at Bethesda Christian at 5 p.m. Thursday.
