Baseball roundup: Fishers edges out HSE in first Mudsock game, Noblesville & Guerin Catholic get all-county victories, Sheridan shuts out Tri-Central

A big second inning propelled Fishers to a 7-6 win over Hamilton Southeastern Thursday in the first game of the Mudsock series, which was played at the Tigers’ field.

The Royals scored first, with a run in the top of the first inning. Kam Seitz got on base with a one-out double, moved to third base on a passed ball, then scored on Parker O’Steen’s RBI groundout.

Fishers took control in the second inning with five runs. The Tigers loaded the bases, then hit back-to-back RBI bunt singles: Jase Ruggles brought in Evan Doran, then Caulin Brown sent Trevor Hall home. Later, Deagan Repp singled Ruggles home, then Brady Carman and Repp scored when Huston Dunn reached on error.

With that, Fishers led 5-1. Southeastern got two runs back in the top of the third. A Colin Goley left field hit sent Drew LaFleur home, then Seitz scored his second run of the game on a wild pitch.

The Tigers then added two runs in the bottom of the third. Doran scored after a balk, then Hall was brought in by Brown’s sacrifice fly.

The Royals put up three runs in the fourth inning. Nolan Colbert got home on a wild pitch, Evan Haas scored on Seitz’s RBI groundout, then O’Steen batted LaFleur home with a right field hit. But Jack Brown ended the inning with a strikeout, and Fishers held the lead until the game finished.

Doran was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Tigers, while Jack Brown got the pitching win with four strikeouts in four innings. Alex Billman and Seitz both had two hits for Southeastern. Ethan Lund pitched a complete game, striking out nine.

The Tigers are 4-3 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference play and 11-6 overall, while the Royals are 3-4 in the conference and 7-8 overall. Southeastern will host the second game of the Mudsock series at 6 p.m. tonight.

Noblesville picked up an HCC and all-county win at Westfield Thursday, beating the Shamrocks 4-2.

The Millers scored a run in the third inning when Brady Bishop got home after Trevor Corbett reached on error. Westfield got both of its runs in the fifth inning. Ethan Colling cracked a triple into right field to bring Nick Fero home. Jake Russell came in to run for Colling and was scored by Beck Jordan’s right field hit.

Noblesville surged ahead in the sixth inning. Nolan Decker, Aiden Ramsey and McCoy Fulk hit singles to load the bases, and Decker got home on Joe Glander’s RBI groundout. Tanner Miller came up next and he sent a base hit into left field, bringing in Ramsey and Fulk.

Beckett Doane pitched six and two-thirds innings for the Millers, striking out seven. Jordan had two hits for Westfield. Ty Anderson went five innings, striking out nine.

Noblesville is 5-0 in the conference and 12-3 overall, while the Rocks are 4-3 in HCC play and 9-6 overall. The two teams play at the Millers’ Don Dunker Field at 6:30 p.m. tonight to finish the series.

Guerin Catholic beat Carmel 5-1 Thursday in an all-county game at the Greyhounds’ Hartman Field.

The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the fourth inning. Daulton Phillips smacked a two-out double into right field to score Davis Wagner and AJ Nunley.

Guerin Catholic added three runs in the sixth inning: Wagner got home on Cuinn Morrow’s RBI groundout, then Phillips hit another two-RBI double to bring in Nunley and Nate Gremelspacher. Carmel scored its run in the seventh inning when Gabriel Silva doubled in Joe Cunningham.

The Golden Eagles’ Ryan Zimmerman pitched a complete game, striking out three. JD Stein had two hits for the Greyhounds, including a double. Max Winders pitched five and two-thirds innings, tossing six strikeouts.

Guerin Catholic is 11-2 and hosts Zionsville Monday. Carmel is 9-5 and hosts Hamilton Heights at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Sheridan picked up a 10-0 Hoosier Heartland Conference win over Tri-Central on Thursday.

Clinton Slopsema and Caleb Alexander both had three hits for the Blackhawks, while Chance Spencer got two hits. Dayne Voege cracked a triple. Cole Mackintosh got the pitching win.

Sheridan is 2-1 in conference play and 7-4 overall. The Hawks continue HHC action this afternoon at Clinton Central.
