Baseball roundup: ‘Blazers take care of Scecina

The University baseball team won its regular-season finale, beating Scecina 7-2 in a Monday away game.
The Trailblazers scored two runs in the first inning, with Ben Westerkamm getting home on a passed ball and Dawson Estep batting in Nate Shatkowski. In the third inning, Shatkowski singled home Alex Washlock and Westerkamm.
University added two more runs in the fifth inning: Kolton Stevens’ single brought in Westerkamm, and Shatkowski scored on an error. Stevens batted in Tyler Galyean in the seventh inning.
Westerkamm went 3-for-4 at the plate, with Estep, Galyean and Stevens all getting two hits, including a triple for Estep. Galyean pitched six innings for the win, striking out eight.
The Trailblazers finished the regular season 15-10-1 and plays Providence Cristo Rey at 5 p.m. today in the first game of the Bethesda Christian sectional.

Golden Eagles drop regular-season finale

Guerin Catholic dropped its regular-season finale to Pendleton Heights 5-3 on Monday at Grand Park.
The Golden Eagles got on the board first, with two runs in the fourth inning. Braden Reel singled in Nate Bingman and Luke Godfrey. But the Arabians scored five runs in the fifth inning and held the lead from there.
Guerin Catholic got one more run in the seventh inning, when Bingman doubled in Wes Gingerich. Bingman and Reel each got two hits. Bingman also pitched five strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings.
The Golden Eagles finished the regular season 19-7. They will play Delta in the semi-finals of the Blackford sectional on Friday.

Carmel overwhelms Logansport

Carmel overwhelmed Logansport in its regular season finale on Monday, winning 13-0 at Hartman Field.
The Greyhounds scored in every inning, including six runs in the second. Jackson Adams hit a two-run home run in that inning. Brayden Lentz hit an RBI double in the second as well.
Jared Greene was 3-for-3 at the plate, with Drew Olssen and Alex Brooks each getting two hits. Brooks hit a double in the first inning that scored a run, and drove in three runs total for the game. Brooks also got the pitching win.
Carmel finished the regular season 20-7 and will play host Noblesville in a Friday sectional semi-final game.
