Baseball: Millers sweep Olympians in doubleheader

The Noblesville baseball team swept both games of a Saturday doubleheader with Columbus East at Don Dunker Field.
The Millers won the first game 9-4. After the Olympians scored two runs in the top of the first inning, Noblesville poured in five runs in the bottom of the inning and never trailed again. Dean White scored the first run on a wild pitch, then Bryce Adams hit a sacrifice fly to send Kolbi Kazmierski home. Mason Bohland and Keegan Speek each scored on separate errors, then Jacob Weiler doubled in Luke Wilson.
Adams batted in a run for the Millers in the second inning when his right field hit scored White. In the fourth inning, White scored again on a wild pitch. Bohland finished the Noblesville scoring in the sixth inning with a single to bring in Aidan Shoemaker and Kazmierski.
White was 2-for-2 at the plate, with both hits doubles. Lucas Stephen pitched five innings for the win, tossing seven strikeouts.
In the second game, the Millers won 10-8. This game followed almost the same script as the opener: Columbus East scored twice in the top of the first, but Noblesville dominated the bottom of the inning.
This time, the Millers scored eight runs in the first. Adams doubled in White and Kazmierski, then Wilson’s double scored Adams. Drew Niswonger’s double scored Conner Bloss and Wilson, then Bryce Riggs batted in Weiler. White then smacked a double to send Niswonger and Riggs home.
Noblesville added two more runs in the fourth inning. Shoemaker’s double brought Riggs home, then Kazmierski scored on a wild pitch. The Olympians scored three runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Millers’ lead to two, but Josh Kern got the final out with a strikeout.
Kazmierski and Niswonger both had two hits, with Kazmierski cracking a triple. Kern got the win, striking out six in four and two-thirds innings. Starter Noah Bennington struck out five.
The Millers finished their regular season 14-16 and play host Westfield Friday in a sectional semi-final game.

University got its offense going in the middle innings of its Saturday game at Scecina, and that led the 2A No. 7 Trailblazers to an 11-6 victory.
University got on the board in the third inning, with Grady Hay scoring on an error and Adam Oxley hitting a sacrifice bunt that sent Jake Hooker home.
The Crusaders tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, but the ‘Blazers responded with two more runs in the fourth; Thomas Price and Mitchell Price both hit RBI singles. University then put up four runs in the fifth, including a two-RBI single from Thomas Price, and University cruised from there.
Hellman was 3-for-4 at the plate, including a double. while Thomas Price drove in three runs. Seth Hogg also hit a double. Grayson Knight pitched six innings for the win, striking out 11.
University is 19-9 and finishes its regular season Monday at Brebeuf Jesuit.

Carmel split two games Saturday at its own Invitational.
In a morning game, the Class 4A No. 1 Greyhounds fell to Cathedral 4-0. Hunter Snow had two hits.
Carmel rebounded in its afternoon game to beat Chesterton 12-0 in five innings. Jackson Micheels delivered a three-run home run in the fifth inning, also scoring Connor Gioia and JD Rogers. Micheels finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in four runs and scoring two. Rogers totaled three runs and hit 2-for-2. Daniel Cunningham was 2-for-4, including a fifth-inning triple.
Aidan McConnell went three innings for the win, striking out five. Four Greyhounds pitchers combined for a no-hitter.
Carmel finished the regular season 22-3-1 and plays Zionsville Wednesday in the first round of the Westfield sectional.

Hamilton Heights split a home doubleheader with Frankfort on Saturday to finish its regular season.
In the first game, the Huskies lost 11-1 in five innings. Heights scored its run in the second inning when Dean Mason doubled home Joe Mayo. Mason would hit another double in the fourth inning.
The second game went much better for the Huskies, as they scored three runs in the seventh inning for a 5-4 walk-off win. Heights scored one run in both of the first two innings: Mayo batted in Nate Hulen for the first run and Lucas Letsinger scored the second run when Camden Crawford reached on error.
The Hot Dogs eventually took the lead and were up 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, the Huskies loaded the bases when Mason drew a walk, then Sam Allen and Isaac Tuma both hit singles. Mason scored on Hulen’s RBI fielder’s choice to cut the Frankfort lead to 4-3.
Mayo drew a walk to load the bases again. That brought up Drew VanOeveren, and he doubled into center field to score Allen and Hulen and get the Huskies the victory. It was VanOeveren’s second double of the game.
Erik Malott also hit a double. Letsinger pitched the last two innings and got the win, not allowing a hit.
Heights finished the regular season 16-9 and will play Delta Wednesday in the first round of the Yorktown sectional.
