The Hamilton Heights baseball team opened its season with a 1-2 record during its Spring Break trip to George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Ky.
First, the Huskies fell to Cooper (Ky.) 9-5 on Monday. Cooper scored five runs in the top of the first inning and added three more runs in the third, staying in front the entire game.
Heights got two runs in the bottom of the first, with Adam Hughes’ single scoring Alex Eubanks and Logan Hickman. Dean Mason opened the sixth inning with a home run. In the seventh inning, Phoenix Vondersaar scored on Mason’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Nick Hulen was sent home by Cooper Vondersaar’s single. Mason had two hits for the game.

The Huskies rebounded on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-4 win over Madisonville-North Hopkins (Ky.). This time, Heights led from start to finish.
Mason scored a run in the first inning. He drew a one-out walk, then got home after Hulen nailed a left-field triple. The Huskies added three runs in the third inning; Mason was sent home by Hickman’s RBI groundout, then Cohen Boyd’s double brought in Hulen and Kaleb Murray.
Hulen scored a fifth-inning run on Kyle Michael’s RBI groundout. In the seventh inning, Hulen doubled home Mason, then later scored on a wild pitch for his third run of the game. Hulen was 4-for-4 at the plate, while Mason was 2-for-3. Lucas Spicer pitched three innings for the win.

Later that evening, Heights fell to George Rogers Clark 14-4 in six innings. The Huskies scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning, as Alex Rickey doubled home Hickman and Murray, then Phoenix Vondersaar batted in Cooper Vondersaar and Rickey.
Heights plays its home opener Saturday, hosting Anderson in a doubleheader.
