Baseball: Golden Eagles win at Catholic Classic

The Guerin Catholic baseball team beat Hammond Bishop Noll 16-3 Saturday at the Catholic Classic, which took place at Lafayette Central Catholic.
The Golden Eagles were on top early, leading 6-1 after two innings, then poured in six more runs in the fourth inning. Clay Patton and Davis Wagner both hit home runs, with Patton driving in five runs in total. Wagner had four RBIs. Will Fremion was 3-for-4 at the plate, Sam Miller hit two doubles, and Caden Ratcliff got the pitching win.
Guerin Catholic was to play LCC in the championship game, but lighting issues forced the game to be canceled.
The Golden Eagles are 9-2 and host Heritage Christian Monday in a Circle City Conference game.

Hamilton Heights swept a doubleheader at Elwood on Saturday.
The Huskies won the first game 18-1 in three innings and the second game 26-1 in four innings. In the first game, Harrison Hochstedler batted in five RBIs, while Sam Allen scored four runs. Alex Rickey had three hits.
Heights won the second game 26-1 in four innings. Isaac Tuma batted in five runs and hit a home run.
The Huskies are 7-3 and host Northwestern Tuesday to begin at Hoosier Conference series.

Fishers split a doubleheader with Huntington North Saturday at the Tigers’ field.
The Vikings got past Fishers in the first game, 6-4 in eight innings. Dom Oliverio hit a home run for the Tigers, who came back to tie the game in the seventh inning after trailing 3-0 for most of the contest. Gavin Kuzniewski had two hits.
Fishers turned things around dramatically in the second game, beating Huntington North 25-2 in five innings. Quinn Seefeldt hit a home run and totaled five RBIs. Jack Brown batted in four runs, while Joey Brenczewski hit two triples. Ben Hammond went three innings for the win, striking out six.
The Tigers are 11-4 and host Hamilton Southeastern Thursday to begin the Mudsock series.

Hamilton Southeastern was swept by Homestead in a Saturday doubleheader.
The Spartans beat the Royals 10-3 in the first game. Landon Riekhof, Eli Miller and Maddux Bach all had two hits. Griffen Haas threw five strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings.
Southeastern nearly came all the way back after being down 13-2 in the second game, rallying to score nine runs in the last four innings before falling 13-11. Cole Earlewine hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Ty Bradle, Landon Riekhof, Clayton Wilke and Harrison Dilts all hit one double, with Riekhof, Chugga Rosario and Hunter Wright each getting two hits.
The Royals are 5-9 and travel to Fishers on Thursday to begin the Mudsock series.

In a battle of No. 1-ranked teams, Class 2A No. 1 University beat 1A No. 1 South Central (Union Mills) 9-0 in a game at Kokomo Saturday.
The Trailblazers scored all nine of their runs in the fifth inning. Jake Hooker was 2-for-3, with both of his hits triples. Sam Woodward also hit a triple. Grayson Knight pitched the complete game, striking out 14.

Westfield dropped a back and forth game with New Castle 10-7 Saturday at the Shamrocks’ field.
Westfield scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, but the Trojans took control by scoring six runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
The Shamrocks’ Nick Alm went 3-for-3, including a double, with Trey Dorton hitting a double as well. Maximus Webster drove in two runs.
