Baseball: Golden Eagles’ season off to great start, beat Bishop Chatard 13-3

The Guerin Catholic baseball team improved to 2-0 Tuesday after beating Bishop Chatard 13-3 in a five-inning Circle City Conference game.

The Trojans scored a run in the top of the first inning, but the Golden Eagles took over after that with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Will Fremion led off with a home run to tie the game. Later, Nolan Ratcliff got home when Cuinn Morrow was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Karson Smith went home after Ian Taylor drew a walk, then Tate Troxell scored to put Guerin Catholic up 4-1.

Troxell and AJ Nunley both scored in the third inning after Nate Gremelspacer reached on error. Anthony Ferrucci then doubled in Gremelspacher. The Golden Eagles kept up the pace in the fourth inning, with Morrow’s double bringing in Smith. Morrow later scored on an error.

Chatard got two runs in the top of the fifth, but Guerin Catholic closed the door in the bottom of the inning with four runs. Aiden Ochall scored on Bryson Dorsey’s RBI groundout, then Davis Wagner smacked a homer that also sent Fremion home. Troxell then ended the game with a left field home run.

Wagner was 3-for-4, hitting a home run, double and single. He also was the winning pitcher, with seven strikeouts over all five innings.

The Golden Eagles were to play Chatard again on Wednesday, but the game was rained out. Guerin Catholic hosts Homestead on Saturday.
