Baseball: Fishers beats Carmel, ‘Hounds rebound next day

Fishers won an all-county game with Carmel Monday, 6-4 at the Tigers’ field.
The Greyhounds scored the game’s first run in the top of the first inning. Nathan MacLaren led off with a triple, then scored on Hunter Snow’s RBI groundout.
The Class 4A No. 6 Tigers came back to score four runs in the bottom of the first. Caulin Brown batted in the first run, with a center field single to score Joey Brenczewski. Carson Dunn got home on a wild pitch, then Curtis Kearschner cracked a double to score Jack Backofen (running for Brown) and Quinn Seefeldt. Fishers added a run in the third inning, when Seefeldt singled in Backofen.
Carmel got a couple runs back in the fourth inning. Tripp Schroeder sent a solo home run into left field, then Adam Buczkowski singled in Dan Cunningham. In the fifth inning, the ‘Hounds added another run when JD Stein drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Nathan Williams and cutting the lead to 5-4.
The Tigers held on, scoring one more run in the sixth inning. Huey Dunn singled in Backofen, his third run of the day. Meanwhile, Brenczewski had two hits, and Cody Jones got the pitching win in relief. Starter Gavin Kuzniewski threw eight strikeouts in four and a third innings.
Fishers is 14-5 and plays a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at Avon today.

Carmel rebounded to win another all-county game on Tuesday, beating Hamilton Southeastern 12-2 in five innings Tuesday at Hartman Field.
The Greyhounds scored 11 runs in the first two innings. Nathan MacLaren went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Dan Cunningham and JD Stein both hit triples. Max Winders went four and a third innings for the win, tossing five strikeouts.
Cole Earlewine had two hits and scored both of the Royals’ runs.
Carmel is 10-4 and hosts Lafayette Central Catholic this afternoon. The Royals are 6-12 and play at Noblesville on Thursday to begin an HCC series.

Noblesville sailed past Northwestern 10-0 in a six-inning Monday game at Don Dunker Field.
The Millers led 3-0 after two innings and scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth to finish the game. Drew Niswonger scored three runs, while Nolan Decker and Josh Kern both batted in three runs. Kern hit a double.
Ty Haley pitched five and a third innings for the win, striking out 11.
Noblesville is 9-8 and hosts Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday.
