The Carmel baseball team won its own Greyhound Invitational Saturday at Hartman Field.
In its first game, Carmel toughed out a 2-1 win over Columbus North. The Greyhounds on the board when Tripp Schroeder led off the fourth inning with a home run. Carmel added a second run in the sixth inning; Case Sullivan doubled in Nathan Williams.
Schroeder was 2-for-3 at the plate. Cam Heaney went five innings for the pitching win.
The ‘Hounds clinched the title by cruising past Chesterton 13-2 in five innings. Carmel scored four runs in the first inning, with Schroeder hitting a two-run single. Nathan MacLaren led off the second inning with a triple and was promptly batted in by Hunter Snow. JD Stein cracked a three-run triple in the fourth inning, with Snow also getting a triple.
Snow was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3. Stein totaled four RBIs and Cody Kantz scored three runs. Max Winders got the pitching win.
Carmel finished the regular season 16-7.
