SHERIDAN – Sheridan scored a 12-2, five-inning victory over Herron in a Wednesday home game.
The Blackhawks scored in each inning. After the Achaeans scored one run in the top of the first, Sheridan poured in five runs in the bottom of the inning. Steve Smith took the first pitch of the game for a triple, then scored right away when Jake O’Hara singled him in.
O’Hara moved to third base after Cameron Hovey hit a double, then both Blackhawks were sent home by Sean Speck’s double. Speck moved to third on a passed ball while Jacob Vita was drawing a walk, then Speck scored on another passed ball. Vita would also move around the bases, then stole home to put Sheridan up 5-1.
“We had a good game,” said ‘Hawks coach Adam Spencer. “Sean Speck played really well, two really nice hits. Kyle Archer came out and pitched very well, threw a lot of strikes. So overall, great team effort, for sure.”
Speck was responsible for both of the Blackhawks’ second-inning runs, as his double sent Smith (who got on base with his second double of the game) and Hovey home. The ‘Hawks added three more runs in the third, with Caine Spencer scoring on a passed ball, then O’Hara and Hovey got home after Silas DeVaney reached on error.
Cameron Murray added another run for Sheridan in the fourth inning when he scored on a passed ball, making the score 11-1. Herron cut the lead to 11-2 after a triple brought home a run. But the Blackhawks ended the game on the run rule after Luke Chesney scored on a passed ball.
Speck totaled four RBIs for the game; both he and Smith had two hits. Hovey, Vita and Murray all stole two bases.
Kyle Archer pitched three innings for the win, striking out four. Sheridan only allowed the Achaeans one hit in the game.
The Blackhawks are 2-1 heading into Spring Break, and will return to action on Tuesday, April 9 at Tindley.
