Baseball: Big sixth inning sends Millers past HSE

The Noblesville baseball team ran away in the sixth inning of its game with Hamilton Southeastern Friday at Don Dunker Field, and that gave the Millers a 6-3 win.
Noblesville scored the first run of the game in the first inning; Mason Bohland hit a sacrifice fly to send Dean White home.
The Royals got on the board in the fourth inning when Landon Riekhof hit a single to score Ty Bradle. Southeastern took the lead in the fifth after Hunter Dilts singled in Hunter Wright, then in the sixth inning, Peyton Lusby’s left field hit sent Riekhof home and gave the Royals a 3-1 lead.
But the Millers came back in the sixth inning by scoring five runs. Drew Niswonger batted in the first run, a left field double that scored Bohland. Keegan Speek tied the game by scoring after Jacob Weiler drew a bases-loaded walk. That tied the game at 3-3, and Luke Wilson put Noblesville in the lead when he singled home Niswonger.
Dean White then drew a bases-loaded walk to score Josh Kern. Weiler finished the scoring, getting home on Kolbi Kazmierski’s RBI groundout.
Bohland and Conner Bloss both had two hits, with White also hitting a double. Jared Crandall got the pitching win, while Lucas Stephen threw the seventh inning for the save.
The Millers are 9-11 and play at Class 3A No. 4 Western this morning. The Royals are 8-12-1 and will participate in the Plymouth Invitational today.

Fishers took control in the middle innings, and that sent the Tigers to a 4-2 HCC win at Avon Friday.
The Orioles led 2-0 after three innings. Fishers scored its first run in the fourth inning when Matt Bryant got home on an error. Jack Brown tied the game in the fifth inning by batting in Zach Cox.
The Tigers took the lead in the sixth inning. Dom Oliverio scored when Gavin Clayton drew a bases-loaded walk, then Bryant scored again on an error.
Caulin Brown had two hits, including a double. Jack Brown pitched a complete game for the win, striking out nine against four hits and two walks.
Fishers is 13-10 and plays Monday at Yorktown.

Hamilton Heights rolled to its 12th consecutive victory on Friday, beating Western Boone 12-1 in a five-inning away game.
The Huskies scored in each of the five innings. Drew VanOeveren started with a double in the first inning, and he was sent home by Dean Mason’s double. Nate Hulen also hit a double in the fifth inning.
VanOeveren went 4-for-5 at the plate, while Brayden Elkin batted in three runs, including a two-run single in the fourth inning. Elkin also hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to send VanOeveren home, VanOeveren finished the game with three runs. Jared Michael was 3-for-4 at the plate, batting in a third-inning run.
Guy Griffey pitched four innings for the win, striking out seven and allowing only two hits and no walks.
Heights is 12-6 and hosts Madison-Grant on Monday.

Westfield saw its unbeaten HCC season come to an end on Friday, as the 4A No. 2 Shamrocks lost to 4A No. 8 Zionsville 6-1 in a home game.
The Eagles led 2-0 after four innings, then added another four runs in the fifth. Westfield scored its run in the sixth inning when Isaac Minder got home on Trey Dorton’s RBI groundout.
Zionsville held the Shamrocks to one hit, a seventh-inning double from Cody South. Gage Stanifer pitched four and two-thirds inning, striking out nine.
Westfield is 8-1 in the conference and 13-2-1 overall. The ‘Rocks play at Zionsville this afternoon to complete the HCC series.

Guerin Catholic fell to Bishop Dwenger 11-1 in five innings Friday in its first game at the Lafayette Central Catholic tournament.
The Golden Eagles scored their run in the second inning, when Spencer Wilt got home after Braden Reel drew a bases-loaded walk. Clay Patton was 2-for-2 at the plate.
Guerin Catholic is 8-13 and plays two games at Central Catholic this afternoon, taking on Bishop Noll at 4 p.m. and the host Knights at 6:30 p.m.
