Bank of America awards Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra $45K to support the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO) was recently awarded a $45,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation in support of the work of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, which is a youth and family development program of the ISO.

“We are grateful to Bank of America for this partnership in support of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra,” ISO CEO James Johnson said. “This grant from Bank of America helps us to support the mission of the MYO, which is to develop life skills through the rehearsal and performance of music.”

The grant is part of the first round of grants that Bank of America will provide to local nonprofits this year. This round addressed economic mobility for individuals and families, which includes investing in jobs and health. These grants are part of the Bank’s commitment to responsible growth as it works to improve the financial lives of individuals and families. Philanthropic and volunteer investments play a key role in this effort to build thriving communities.

“Addressing community needs through our philanthropic investments is just one way to help build a more sustainable community,” Bank of America Indianapolis President Andy Crask said. “We’re honored to partner with nonprofit organizations such as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra that are helping to advance economic and social progress, in particular for vulnerable populations.”

About the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra
For over 25 years, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO) has been helping students to develop musical skills and to realize their potential. Students are provided a safe and loving environment to make mistakes, overcome fears, develop healthy relationships, and take the life skills learned through music to become successful adults. Students learn to play in a fun, engaging, and challenging environment led by expert faculty with a long-term commitment to the learning process. Students form part of the MYO leadership team, and a culture of support lays the foundation for life-skill development. Culturally responsive teaching is a key element, helping to build a space that’s respectful and inclusive. By providing students in and around Indianapolis with opportunities for after-school and weekend programming, the MYO helps to keep kids in school and encourages school engagement.
