Hamilton Heights boys basketball coach Chad Ballenger will host the 22nd annual Boars Nest Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Tri-Ponds Golf Course, 2345 S. County Road 900 West, Tipton.
Five coaches will speak at the clinic, which is free with no registration required. Coaches and their assistants are invited to attend.
“We have a great line-up of speakers, and I can’t wait to steal from some of the best coaches in the state,” said Ballenger. “After the coaches speak feel free to hang out and stay as long as you want.”
The line-up and speakers are as follows:
10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Coach Micah Shrewsberry – Topic: Playing Offense with a Purpose
Head Coach at Notre Dame University. Shrewsberry is fresh off a historic turnaround as the head coach at Penn State. After a 14-17 first season, Shrewsberry produced a 23-14 mark in 2022-23, just the 12th 20-win season in the 127-year history of Penn State basketball. Coach collected more Big Ten wins (17) in his first two seasons than any other Penn State head coach.
Shrewsberry brings a wealth of experience and success to the helm of the Notre Dame program. All-in-all he’s coached in six NCAA Tournaments, two NCAA Final Fours, five NBA Playoffs and two NBA Conference Finals – in addition to coaching all-NBA honorees Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Coach has strong Indiana ties with coaching stops at Purdue/Butler/IU-South Bend/DePauw/Wabash/University of Indianapolis/Played collegiately at Hanover and High School basketball at Cathedral.

Coach Don Carlisle – Topic: The Culture of Ben Davis Basketball
Head Coach at Ben Davis HS. Entering his 6th season as the Giants head coach, they are coming off a 33-0 season and a 4A State Championship. He has an overall record of 144- 66. Carlisle was the 2023 Indiana All-Stars coach. Coach has won 4 Sectional Championships, 2 Regional Championship and 2 Semi-State Championship at Ben Davis. Coach won a Sectional title with Indianapolis Arlington in 2016. Coach is a Ben Davis graduate, he played and coached collegiately at IUPUI. Topic – The Culture of Ben Davis Basketball.

Coach Jarrett Moore – Topic: In Season and Out of Season Workouts
Notre Dame Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach. Coach Moore is in his first year as a strength & conditioning coach at Notre Dame. He is responsible for strength & conditioning programs for Women’s Basketball, Men’s Golf and Women’s Golf. Coach previously worked at Purdue University, where he was an assistant strength & conditioning coach for Men’s Basketball from Fall 2021 until Winter 2022. At Purdue, he started off as the CSCCa Coaching Assistant and assisted all Olympic sports. He was elevated to Strength & Conditioning Associate where he oversaw Women’s Swim, Cheer, and Men’s Tennis. Coach also worked with Volleyball & Dive during the 2022 Spring & Summer seasons.

Coach Brooks Miller – Topic: Motion Offense
Head Coach at Trine University. Miller just completed his 12th season as the Head Coach of the Trine University Men’s Basketball program and has 23 combined years of collegiate basketball playing and coaching experience. Miller has compiled an overall record of 197-112 at Trine including a 103-57 record versus Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opponents. Coach Miller guided the Thunder to their first ever MIAA Championship in 2019 and swept both the MIAA regular season and MIAA Tournament Championships in 2021. Miller’s career at Trine University is highlighted by being named the 2020- 2021 NCAA D3 National Coach of the Year by both Hoopdirt.com/Just Play Sports Solutions and Basketball Times Magazine. Miller was also named the 2021 Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by D3Hoops.com. In 2007, his career took him to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he served as a graduate assistant coach to Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Bob Knight (three National Championships) and was involved with on-campus recruiting and player development.

Coach John Peckinpaugh – Topic: Building the Wildkat Defensive Principles
Head Coach at Kokomo HS. Entering his 3rd season as the Wildkats head coach, they are coming off a 24-5 season and a 4A State Runner-Up. He has an overall record of 65-37. Coach has won 2 Sectional titles, 2 Regional titles and 1 Semi-State Championship with the Kats. Coach has stops at Noblesville HS and college stops as a head coach at Wheeling Jesuit and Indiana Tech. He also served assistant roles at Purdue Ft. Wayne and Indiana Tech. Coach played collegiately at Purdue Ft. Wayne and at Muncie Central HS where they were back-back State Runner-Ups.
