Balanced scoring and solid defense led Hamilton Southeastern to a 67-54 win over Mount Vernon Tuesday at the Royals’ gym.
Southeastern led 20-13 after the first quarter, but the Marauders came back to within 33-30 at halftime. The Royals responded with a 20-point third quarter, and outscored Mount Vernon 14-11 in the fourth.
Four HSE players landed in double figures: Noah Smith scored 17 points, Chris Grubbs added 14, Aaron Etherington contributed 12 and Landon Morris added 10. Grubbs pulled eight rebounds, with Morris collecting six and Etherington five.
As a team, Southeastern dished out 22 assists; Grubbs handed out six, Smith had five and Etherington four. The Royals totaled 12 team blocked shots, with Morris making five blocks, Mabor Majak three and Smith two.
Southeastern is 10-5 and hosts Noblesville Friday for a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
