ATI, Feinstein’s partner to present local, national entertainment

Actors Theatre of Indiana (ATI) is partnering with Feinstein’s at Hotel Carmichael in Carmel to bring local and national artists once a month from June through October.

Don Farrell, co-founder of ATI, says he is excited for this new venture. “Actors Theatre of Indiana is honored to partner with Feinstein’s at Hotel Carmichael in presenting local and national top-quality entertainment for our “ATI Live at Feinstein’s” series,” he said. “Feinstein’s is known world-wide as being a sophisticated destination for live-music of world-class musical talent.”

With its partnership with two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy award-winning musician Michael Feinstein, Feinstein’s at Hotel Carmichael is modeled after the legendary Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York. Feinstein’s will offer a variety of cabaret shows throughout the week.

“Actors Theatre of Indiana is thrilled to partner with this exquisite new venue and hotel to celebrate the power of live cabaret and enhance the quality of life for our Carmel community, our Central Indiana community, and the patrons of Feinstein’s at Hotel Carmichael,” Farrell continued.

Feinstein’s, which celebrated its official Grand Opening on May 13, is also excited for the partnership with Actors Theatre of Indiana.

Jamie Hopwood is the General Manager of Hotel Carmichael. “Feinstein’s at Hotel Carmichael is excited to be able to partner with Actors Theater of Indiana for this special series of events. Our venue is truly like nothing else in the Midwest and to be able to share this space with a great organization like ATI for these events is exciting for everyone involved.”

Actors Theatre of Indiana kicked off their live performances at Feinstein’s in March as part of the first dinner cabaret at the venue. Looking ahead, ATI will present Katy Gentry as the guest at the upcoming June show.

Gentry

Gentry brings her powerhouse voice to perform “Strings of My Heart – The Judy Songbook” for a one-night only event at 7:30 p.m. on June 24 at Feinstein’s.

Gentry, who originated the role of Judy in ATI’s 2007 premiere of Beyond the Rainbow and returned as 38-year-old Garland almost a decade later in 2017 for ATI’s reprise of the show, joins a stellar trio of award-winning musicians including Greg Wolff (fellow ATI alumni and master percussionist), Bethany Robinson (Indiana Jazz Educator of the Year and leader in the guest artist partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center), and Orchard School’s faculty member and music director, Dustin Klein; to weave Garland’s signature sound and songs with stories and some musical surprises of her own.

Gentry has made her home on professional theater stages for over 25 years with the last four years performing the songbook of Judy Garland. Theater critics hailed Gentry’s performance in Beyond the Rainbow as “magnificent in sound and situation” (LRGM, 2017) and highlighting the “undeniable vocal talents…[that] carry us into the presence of Judy Garland” (A Seat on the Aisle, 2017).

Gentry’s storytelling and writing talents allowed her to develop her own cabaret dedicated to the legend. Under production by Magic Thread Cabaret, the show enjoyed two successful runs at The Cat and again with The District Theatre in 2018. The audience and theater critics agreed that “Gentry neither mimics nor impersonates Garland” but “covers a remarkable variety of Garland classics reminiscent of the legend” that allows Katy’s “own star power” to “shine through” (A Seat on the Aisle, 2018).

Gentry made her soloist debut at Carnegie Hall in 2012 in the world premiere of Greg Gilpin’s arrangement of The Wizard of Oz with accompanist and Musical Director, Ben Cohn (Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked).
