Arthur Otis “Bud” Miles

July 11, 1935 – October 1, 2024

Arthur Otis “Bud” Miles, 89, Arcadia, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Riverview Hospital. Born in Indianapolis on July 11, 1935, to the late Herschel and Mary (Totman) Miles, Bud lived a life full of love, joy, and passion.

On January 29, 1960, Bud married the love of his life, Carol C. (Cooper) Miles, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years.

Bud worked as a Pressman at Goss Press and The Indianapolis Star, and a Newspaper Supply Salesman at New England Newspaper Supply Company before retiring. He attended First Baptist Church of Indianapolis. Bud’s love for life was apparent in his many hobbies – boating, particularly his old 1957 Chris-Craft, working on old engines, and driving his 1985 Porsche. He was a handyman at heart and cherished his time puttering around his outbuilding, bird watching, and caring for his beloved dog, Abbott.

Bud enjoyed simple pleasures: being with family, striking up conversations with anyone (he never met a stranger), taking his dog on a daily “social call” to their favorite neighbors, working out at cardiac rehab, and listening to Frank Sinatra and big band jazz. One of his greatest joys was hearing his daughter and son in-law make music. Bud overflowed with pride for his grandson, Isaac, and was thrilled that he found his perfect match in Zoë. Glenlivet and Dewar’s Scotch were Bud’s chosen beverages for social settings and his daily five o’ clock call with his sister in-law, Linda.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Diana M. (John) Huntoon of Cicero, and his grandson, Isaac A. (Zoë) Huntoon of Noblesville, along with several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol C. Miles, and his sister, Myra Jo Pendry.

Bud Miles’s legacy of love, kindness, and enthusiasm for life will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 26, with visitation at 11:30 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Indianapolis, 8600 N. College Ave., with a private burial to follow at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Department at First Baptist Church of Indianapolis.
