Fishers Arts Council and Conner Prairie are bringing Art on the Prairie back for its second year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 11.
The team began working together early in the year to make sure that the event met the needs of the artists and patrons who had been part of the inaugural event. Andrew Bradford, Vice President, Chief Advancement Officer of Conner Prairie is part of that team.
“We are thrilled to partner again with the Fishers Arts Council for Art on the Prairie,” Bradford said. “The opportunity to support our local artist community on the 1,046 acres of Conner Prairie represents our relentless commitment to inspire curiosity and foster learning for everyone in our community.”
Les Reinhardt, Executive Director of Fishers Arts Council, says she can’t wait for June 11.
“Conner Prairie has been so supportive of Art on the Prairie and all that Fishers Arts Council has been working to do to make this year better than the last,” Reinhardt said. “Our artists and artisans this year even include some of Conner Prairie’s own creative staff members. We’re excited to announce who is with us ‘on the prairie’ this year.”
This year’s event will take place on the Civil War Journey Field, which is easily accessible by following the signs on the grounds or taking a quick tram ride.
Art on the Prairie is free for Conner Prairie members and is also included in general admission. Special discount tickets for Conner Prairie are available, but you can only order them online at $10 for adults and $8 for kids. Visit FishersArtsCouncil.org for the direct link for discounted tickets for June 11.
Two new items will be part of the fair this year, a local author’s table featuring romance, history, poetry, historical fiction, mystery, and children’s books – all from central Indiana authors and illustrators, including the Indiana Poet Laureate, Matthew Graham. Spark! of Creativity, one of Fishers Arts Council’s programs that focuses on “trying out a creative art form to see what sparks your creativity,” will feature a Musical Petting Zoo with Bach 2 Rock Fishers, Intro to Printmaking with Michelle Feeney, and Taste of Drawing with Jeannette Pomeroy Parssi. There is no cost to try any of these art forms, as Spark! of Creativity is sponsored this year by a Walmart Community Grant.
“Craig Brockhaus, the store manager at the Walmart on Ambleside Drive, has been so helpful in making this Community Grant possible,” said Reinhdardt, who created the Spark! of Creativity program in 2020. “We appreciate the support from our local Walmart in funding this creative experience for our community.”
A few new faces grace the musical stage this year, this time located on The Porter Family Home porch, near the Civil War Journey Field. See the full lineup in the box above.
