Andrew Johnson, Michael Ringwalt, and Jennifer Longenecker wanted to start a brewery in Arcadia, and while the path has been long, the wait is almost over. Northbrook Brewing Company has announced that it will open its first brewery and taproom at 119 W. Main St., Arcadia, on Aug. 19.
“Michael and Andrew started brewing together in 2006 in Michael’s mother’s kitchen in Indianapolis, which is where the name ‘Northbrook Brewing’ came about; that is the name of the neighborhood where Michael’s mother, Gail, lived,” Front House Manager Allison Haley told The Reporter. “Michael and Andrew’s little brother, Alex, met in kindergarten, Andrew and Michael played rugby together.”
What was a friendship with Alex, Andrew’s brother, brewed into Northbrook.
“Expect styles like lagers, pilsners, IPAs, and pale ales,” Johnson said. “We just really want to have fun with it; we want to create a great social space for our community members while they enjoy our beers.”
According to Haley, Northbrook will have 12 beers on tap that are all brewed in house.
“We have everything from pilsners to super happy IPA to stouts to brown ale,” Haley said. “So we have a little bit of everything.”
One of the things Haley and the whole Northbrook crew look forward to is working with Nickel Plate Express.
“We’re so insanely lucky to have the Nickel Plate Depot like right literally right there,” Haley said. “You can see it from our parking lot. We’re working with the Nickel Plate currently. I’ve been working with [NPX Executive Director] Emily Reynolds to come up with some events that we can do with them where you can get a train rife up here, be dropped off, hang out, get a flight and then go back to Noblesville.”
For the Aug. 19 grand opening, patrons can expect live music, food trucks, games and festivities from noon to 10 p.m. at 119 W. Main St., Arcadia.
