Phi Beta Psi Sorority recently held its 110th Annual National Convention, “Cooking up a Cure,” in Milwaukee, Wis. Nine states were represented by delegates from 35 chapters.
Attending from local chapters were Bonnie Colson, Theta Delta Chapter, Tipton and Suzanne Walton, Jan Plummer, Kathy Kirkendorfer and Vicki Cooper, Delta Chapter, Arcadia. Other chapters locally are in Noblesville and Sheridan.
Phi Beta Psi Sorority’s National Project is cancer research, and every dollar collected for this project goes to it. This year the total amount given to six different doctors was $361,068. The grants went to Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y., Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Wa., USC Norris Cancer Center in Los Angeles, Calif., the University of Chicago, Magee-Womens Research Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa., and the University of Virginia. These grants represent research for lung, endometrial, colorectal, breast and ovarian cancers.
Since 1941 when Phi Beta Psi chose cancer research as its national project, a total of $9,831,106 has been given.
