Applications open for Arago Honors nonprofit innovation awards

Indy-area nonprofits eligible for non-restricted cash prize of $10,000

Indianapolis-based Meridian Foundation announced Thursday it will select its third cohort of innovating nonprofits in central Indiana. Arago Honor nonprofits receive $10,000 in unrestricted funds by demonstrating they are creatively solving problems while enacting community change.

Since 2021, a total 15 recipients of the Arago Honor have been honored by the Meridian Foundation. Creative solutions have focused on food insecurity, health, aging assistance, early learning education, workforce development, new business acceleration, art entrepreneurship, and racial equity. Honorees last year included: Be Nimble Foundation, Conner Prairie Museum, Joy’s House, Latinas Welding Guild, Meals on Wheels Central Indiana, Overdose Lifeline, Inc., and Patchwork Indy.

“The Meridian Foundation’s approach to identifying innovative best practices is based on genuine curiosity and a desire to elevate the many talented nonprofit leaders in our community,” Founder Donna Oklak said. “We see social innovation as a linchpin for change and by celebrating the risks nonprofits take, we are also saluting their flexibility and quick responses to critical issues.”

Arago Honor award applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2023. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to review their eligibility requirements on the Meridian Foundation’s website. A learning Zoom session will be held at 1:30 p.m. on June 23. Applicants must be a nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and be based in Marion County or the six donut counties of Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan, or Shelby. Applicants may self-nominate or apply on their own behalf.

Honorees will be announced in November 2023. To find information on how to apply, visit IndyMeridianFoundation.org.
