American Structurepoint Chief Executive Officer Rick Conner, PE, SE, has received the prestigious 2025 Legacy Award from ENR Midwest. The annual award honors industry leaders for their lifetime service to the engineering industry and their communities.

“I am honored and humbled to receive the ENR Midwest Legacy Award. However, no one achieves such an honor alone,” Conner said. “This award is a tribute to the dedicated team at American Structurepoint and their extraordinary contributions to enhancing the quality of life for the clients and communities we’ve proudly served for nearly 60 years.”

Conner was “Employee No. 12” when he began his American Structurepoint career in 1971 as a part-time apprentice drafter. He joined the company full-time in 1976 upon his graduation from Purdue University, working as an engineer in the Bridge Department. Conner progressed through several roles, becoming vice president in 1983 and an owner in 1987. He became company president in 1990 and CEO in 2024.

Since becoming American Structurepoint president in 1990, Conner has transformed American Structurepoint from fewer than 50 employees and $3 million annual revenue to an award-winning, full-service architecture and engineering firm. In 2025, American Structurepoint has approximately 750 employees offering 11 disciplines across 18 design centers in seven states. With Conner’s leadership, American Structurepoint has consistently achieved 8 to 10 percent annual organic growth, culminating in an impressive annual revenue of $207 million in 2024.

Conner’s innovative initiatives at American Structurepoint include expanding the firm’s reach beyond Indiana to Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. He launched new service lines such as Architecture + Interiors, Information Technology, Investigative, Marketing Services, Planning + Economic Development, and Traffic Engineering.

Conner is deeply committed to community involvement, dedicating significant time to mentoring high school and college students. For more than 20 years, Conner has volunteered and mentored students at DREAM Alive, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit dedicated to helping urban youth discover career paths. He also mentors engineering students and advises on curriculum needs as an advisory council member at the Purdue University Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering.

Conner endorsed the establishment of American Structurepoint’s community service activities through its Give Back Program. Since becoming year-round in 2012, the Give Back program has donated more than $1.5 million to nearly 1,000 organizations and families throughout the nation and the world. The employee-led program provides multiple community service opportunities for staff. The program also accepts payroll deductions and hosts fundraisers that the company matches dollar for dollar.

Conner believes in serving the Hamilton County community where he lives. He is a 34-year member of the Noblesville Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, promoting and advocating for public housing. He joined the Riverview Health Foundation Board of Directors in 2018 and is the current board chairman, working to improve Hamilton County healthcare.

Conner is passionate about the engineering industry because it offers limitless opportunities to innovate.

“Engineering is the coolest profession there is,” he said. “Engineers design solutions that improve and uplift our communities, transforming them into better places to live. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
