Ambulance crashes on Campus Parkway, driver & passenger injured

At 3:52 p.m. Tuesday, Noblesville police officers responded to the area of 13675 Campus Pkwy., Noblesville, in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving one vehicle.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later and located the vehicle involved. Evidence at the scene and witness statements appear to indicate that a 1999 Ford ambulance, registered to Preferred Auto Body (Indianapolis), was traveling southbound on the Interstate 69 southbound ramp just prior to the crash occurring. Evidence at the scene suggests that the driver attempted to travel eastbound onto Campus Parkway when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a curb. The vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side and came to rest in the median on Campus Parkway.

The driver of the ambulance was identified as Theodore F. McCallister, 68, Anderson. McCallister was transported by ground ambulance to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital (Indianapolis) with non-life-threatening injuries. A front right-seat passenger of the ambulance was identified as Savanna P. Belcher, 24, Pendleton. Belcher was also transported by ground ambulance to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital (Indianapolis) with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no additional occupants in the vehicle.

The Noblesville Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit was summoned to the scene to investigate the crash.

Eastbound travel on Campus Parkway at the I-69 overpass was restricted as a result of the investigation. The scene was cleared at 6:45 p.m. and traffic was restored to normal operations.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
