The Hamilton County Highway Department has announced a reopening of Allisonville Road at the intersection of 146th Street, which will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9. At that time, no left turns will be allowed through any portion of the intersection.

The reopening marks the end of a 90-day closure as well as the project’s first full year of construction.

The $44 million project, which began a year ago, aims to reduce congestion and enhance safety by transforming the intersection into a grade-separated interchange. The Highway Department reports that the project is on schedule, despite minor delays due to rain and eclipse-related work stoppages mandated by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

Lee

“We are excited to reopen Allisonville Road,” said Matt Lee, Bridge Program Engineer for the Hamilton County Highway Department. “When it reopens, there will be no left turns allowed in any direction, but through traffic and right turns will be permitted in all directions. We also plan to set the bridge beams before Allisonville reopens to avoid overnight closures in the near future.”

To manage traffic, a temporary signal will be installed until the Allisonville Road roundabout becomes operational. Crews say this phase is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of the new interchange.

Davis

“We are very pleased with how the project is advancing,” Highway Director Brad Davis said. “Our team has worked diligently to stay on schedule, and we are optimistic about completing the entire project by July 2025. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this construction period.”

Motorists are reminded that the worksite speed limit is set at 35 mph, and delays can be expected during peak hours. Be sure to use caution while driving through the intersection and consider alternate routes when possible.
