All it took was one big hit & Royals triumphed over Eagles

THE REPORTER

The difference between the Hamilton Southeastern and Zionsville baseball teams Friday was one big hit.

And what a hit it was for Cole Earlewine. The Royals center fielder delivered on a fourth-inning home run, and that would turn out to the game-winner as Southeastern beat the Eagles 1-0 at Ken Seitz Field.

Earlewine sent his homer over the left field fence with two outs. That was one of only three hits between the two teams during the game. Nolan Colbert got the Royals’ other hit with a leadoff single in the second inning. Zionsville made things interesting with a two-out single in the seventh inning, but Alex Billman threw to Maddux Bach, who caught the Eagles stealing and ended the game.

Ethan Lund pitched five innings, with seven strikeouts. Brady Strawmeyer got the save, throwing the final two innings.

Southeastern is still unbeaten in the conference at 4-0 and is 7-4 overall. The Royals host Kokomo today for a doubleheader.
