The Forest Park Aquatic Center in Noblesville began hosting its second big meet in three weeks on Friday, as the Indiana Swimming Age Group State championships came to town.
After the first day of competition, the Carmel Swim Club is on top of the standings, emulating last week’s Senior State champions. Carmel has 930 points, with Fishers Area Swimming Tigers in second place with 543 points. Southeastern Swim Club is in fourth with 248.5 points.
The Carmel club picked up nine event winners during Friday’s action. Alex Schakell had a hand in three victories in the Girls 13-14 division, starting with wins in the 100 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. Schakell also joined Lynsey Bowen, Molly Sweeney and Lexie Ward to claim the 400 medley relay. Ward also finished first in the Girls 13-14 800 free, while Sweeney also won the Girls 13-14 100 breaststroke.
Lewis Zhang was first in the Boys 13-14 1500 free, then joined William Lathrop, Ethan Zhang and Luke Pugh to win that division’s 400 medley relay. Kayla Barr placed first in the Girls 13-14 400 individual medley. Brady Ladine won the Boys 10&U 50 butterfly.
The FAST team won seven events on Friday. Emily Wolf picked up three wins in the Girls 11-12 division, pacing the 100 free, 200 backstroke and 400 free. In the Boys 11-12 category, Alex Koo was first in the 100 free and 400 free. Eduardo Sanchez got two victories in the Boys 13-14 division, triumphing in the 400 IM and the 200 butterfly.
Westfield Aquatics’ Madelyn Yonkus was a triple winner in the Girls 10&U category, taking the 100 free, 50 butterfly and 200 IM. Southeastern Swim Club’s Collin Hutson finished first in the Boys 13-14 100 breaststroke.
