Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is urging Hoosiers to bring their expired, unused and/or unwanted medications to drop-off disposal sites statewide as part of National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 24.

“As we continue to fight the drug epidemic in Indiana, we must recognize that leftover medications lying around in people’s cabinets and drawers pose serious hazards,” Rokita said. “Throwing out any unneeded drugs helps decrease the supply of available substances that someday could be discovered and abused by a friend or loved one.”
The Indiana State Police and other law enforcement agencies are also participating in National Drug Take Back Day. Medications may be dropped off at any Indiana State Police post, except the Toll Road Post.
Staff operating the drop-off sites will ensure the safe disposal of medications, including drugs in liquid and pill form. Vaping pens without batteries and vaping cartridges will also be accepted. Needles, new or used, WILL NOT be accepted for disposal. This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.
National Drug Take Back Day is sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. To find an authorized drop-off site near your home, visit the DEA’s webpage. Most sites will be open for drop-offs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“The abuse of prescription medications is a significant contributor to Indiana’s drug crisis,” Rokita said. “Battling this problem occurs on many fronts, and National Drug Take Back Day reminds us that everyone has a role to play in this fight.”
