Property taxes are critical to the well-being of Indiana’s communities, but older Hoosiers cannot always afford them. This is especially true when they are experiencing property tax increases on top of other rising monthly expenses like utilities, groceries, and healthcare.
To better understand how increasing property taxes impact older homeowners in Indiana, AARP commissioned a poll of Indiana voters aged 50 and over who own a home in the state. Some of the results will be highlighted during an upcoming virtual discussion at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. During the event, experts and state leaders will also discuss how property taxes in the state got to this point and what actions the Indiana General Assembly may take.
Joining the event will be:
- Larry DeBoer, Emeritus Professor, Agricultural Economics at Purdue University
- Ryan Hoff, Director of Government Relations and General Counsel, Indiana Association of Indiana Counties
- State Senator Travis Holdman, Chairman, Senate Tax & Fiscal Policy Committee
