A message about our heroes in the time of COVID-19

By STEVE NATION

County Council Candidate

I would personally like to take time to honor and thank all the men and women who serve as law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, Hamilton County Health Department professionals, doctors and nurses, hospital professionals, township trustees, those individuals working at the various pantries throughout Hamilton County, teachers and school administrations, early intervention advocates, church staffs and state, county, city and town governmental officials and staffs for their service to keep our communities safe during this crisis.

There is no precedent in today’s modern times to combat this virus. These individuals have gone beyond the call of duty and have done a wonderful job to improvise, adapt and overcome the devastating effects of this virus.

We must be committed to not only honoring these individuals now, but also honoring them after this crisis begins to lessen. I have learned after all my years of service that after any crisis that if we want to truly honor our heroes, we must take time to talk and listen to the men and women who have borne the heat of the battle and learn from them.

If we don’t commit to this process, not only have we not honored our heroes, but we have doomed them and our communities to again endure the same struggles. We need to talk with them to ask what they felt went right and what was most challenging, what equipment was needed, what training was needed, what procedures or processes should be maintained or changed, and what partnerships and collaborations should be strengthened or formed among private and public organizations.

It is our duty and responsibility to always be prepared. We need to continue to protect our heroes so we can keep them, and our communities safe. I am committed to work with our Hamilton County Commissioners and Councilors, organizations and citizens of our great county to protect our community.
