Southeastern boys open with big win over Center Grove

The Hamilton Southeastern boys lacrosse team opened its 2023 season Wednesday with a 14-2 home victory against Center Grove.

The two-time defending state champion Royals created nine Trojans turnovers, holding them to an under 50 percent clear rate. Junior Mason Wright collected three ground balls and made one caused turnover, while senior Gavin Wright also picked up three ground balls. Gavin Wright was 7-4 on faceoffs, while sophomore Nick Weber was 7-3.

Senior Owen O’Rourke led the Southeastern offense with six goals and an assist, also getting two ground balls. Senior Gavin Berry and freshman David Gould both scored two goals. The Royals outshot Center Grove 35-8.

The Royals host two games this weekend, taking on South Oldham (Ky.) on Saturday, then welcoming South Bend St. Joseph on Sunday. Both games have varsity start times of noon, with junior varsity to follow.
