Debbie Driskell named Sagamore of the Wabash

Upon receiving the award, Debbie Driskell said this was not a recognition of her achievement, but rather the sum of all the trustees in Indiana who have worked to ensure township government for the future of Indiana. (Photo provided)

Delaware Township Trustee Debbie Driskell, who also serves as the Executive Director of the Indiana Township Association, has been honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Eric J. Holcomb.

The award was presented by State Rep. Doug Miller on Feb. 7, during the legislative conference of the Indiana Township Association. The Sagamore of the Wabash is given to exemplary Hoosiers in recognition of distinguished statewide service.

Driskell has been with the Indiana Township Association for over 32 years providing support for a level of government that is closest to the people. She received the recognition for her dedication to preserving township government in the State of Indiana and showing the value that it has for the future in the State of Indiana.

Driskell took time to recognize those who have made an impact in her journey to preserve township government. Of those were her staff and family; however, she had to recognize Jean Lushin for the years that he spent in preparing her for the role. She also made sure to recognize that this was not a recognition of her achievement, but rather the sum of all the trustees in Indiana who have worked to ensure township government for the future of Indiana.

Since 2004, there has been an exhaustive list of legislation targeted at eliminating township government. Driskell has been with the Indiana Township Association for each of those bills. With this recognition, she indicated that she believes that there is a bright future for township government in the State of Indiana and that those who built the foundations through the Indiana Township Association have paved the way for the future.
