Sheridan Rotary Club members welcomed the new Sheridan Community School superintendent to a recent meeting. Dr. Doug Miller took over the reins of the school a few months back and used this opportunity to tell the club members about his background and his educational philosophy. He grew up attending Western Boone where both of his parents were teachers. He went on to college and became a math teacher, moved into administration first as a principal at North Montgomery, earned his PhD and became an assistant superintendent at Tippecanoe County. He finally accepted the position as superintendent in Sheridan. Dr. Miller and his family live in Noblesville.
Rotarians value education. The local club has helped sponsor several school activities including foreign exchange students, providing scholarships to graduating seniors and hosting an annual banquet recognizing the academic Top Ten Percent of the graduating class as well as the high school and elementary teachers of the year. Internationally, the local club has helped support schools and teachers in such faraway places as Afghanistan.
Sheridan Rotary meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month in the Community Room of the Sheridan Public Library with a dinner and guest speaker. The club is always on the lookout for interesting people to come to a meeting and tell about their jobs and their lives. The club invites people from the community who might consider becoming members to join us for an interesting, enlightening and lively evening program. If you are interested in learning more about Sheridan Rotary and what it does, please contact any Rotary member or stop by or call the library at 317-758-5201 and ask for Steve Martin.
