Hamilton Southeastern held off Springsboro (Ohio) 42-41 on Wednesday to win its first game at the Paul Loggan Memorial Tournament at North Central.
The Royals were in control early, leading by double digits five minutes into the game. Southeastern led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter and 31-20 at halftime. Springsboro allowed Southeastern only two points in the third period and took the lead in the fourth, but the Royals were able to hang on for the win.
“Give our team credit, we didn’t fold when things weren’t going our way,” said Southeastern coach Brian Satterfield. “We found ways to finally score and made key stops when needed.”
Riley Makalusky scored 14 points, collected six rebounds and made five steals. Maya Makalusky added 13 points, while Olivia Brown had 11 points, six steals and four assists.
The Royals are 14-1 and play their second game at North Central on Thursday, facing Henderson County (Ky.) at 11:45 a.m.
